On the Bilayer Coupling in the Yttrium-Barium Family of High Temperature Superconductors
We present and solve a model for the susceptibility of two CuO2 planes coupled by an interplane coupling J⊥ and use the results to analyze a recent ”cross-relaxation” NMR experiment on Y2Ba4Cu7O15. We deduce that in this material the product of J⊥ and the maximum value of the in-plane susceptibility χmax varies from approximately 0.2 at T = 200 K to 0.4 at T = 120 K and that this implies the ex...
متن کاملBilayer coupling in the yttrium-barium family of high-temperature superconductors.
We derive the expressions needed to interpret experiments relating to interplane magnetic coupling in YBa2Cu3O6+x and related materials, and use the results to interpret measurements of the optical magnon energy in YBa2Cu3O6.2 and of the NMR “cross-relaxation” rate in Y2Ba4Cu7O15. We estimate J⊥ ∼ 14 meV in both materials, and χmax/μB ∼ 100 states/eV-Cu in Y2Ba4Cu7O15 at T = 100K. We show that ...
متن کاملCharge Dynamics in Cuprate Superconductors
In this lecture we present some interesting issues that arise when the dynamics of the charge carriers in the CuO2 planes of the high temperature superconductors is considered. Based on the qualitative picture of doping, set by experiments and some previous calculations, we consider the strength of various inter and intra-cell charge transfer susceptibilities, the question of Coulomb screening ...
متن کاملTuning order in cuprate superconductors
In 1986, superconductivity—the ability to transport electrical current without significant resistance—was discovered in cuprate compounds. These materials have fascinated physicists ever since, in part because of the high critical temperatures (Tc’s) below which superconductivity is present and the consequent promise of technological applications. However, cuprate superconductivity also raises ...
متن کاملPairing symmetry in cuprate superconductors
Pairing symmetry in the cuprate superconductors is an important and controversial topic. The recent development of phase-sensitive tests, combined with the refinement of several other symmetry-sensitive techniques, has for the most part settled this controversy in favor of predominantly d-wave symmetry for a number of optimally holeand electron-doped cuprates. This paper begins by reviewing the...
